City Council approves milfoil treatment and Gilford successor agreement

NH LACONIA — Laconia approves milfoil treatment funding and Gilford successor agreement. The City Council unanimously accepted a $57,100 New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services grant for invasive plant removal in Paugus Bay and Lake Opechee, bringing the city cost share to $52,407.81 after Lake Opechee Preservation Association reimbursement. The council also unanimously approved a successor intermunicipal agreement with the Town of Gilford for the Lakes Business Park, replacing an accord signed 25 years earlier and including provisions that cap the city's fiscal responsibility at one million dollars in capital expenditures and move the agreement's termination date from 2050 to 2040.
City Manager Kirk Beattie negotiated the new terms with both communities and their legal counsel.
