City Council rejects appointments committee dissolution, reshuffles members

NH LACONIA — City Council approves theatre contract, social district rules. The Laconia City Council voted unanimously to approve a five-and-a-half-year management contract with Spectacle Management, Inc. for the Colonial Theatre with a first-year subsidy of $166,935.19 and 3 percent annual increases. In a separate unanimous vote, the council adopted Ordinance 2026-201-8 creating a downtown social district where alcoholic beverages may be consumed in public spaces beginning Memorial Day.

The council also rejected a 2-4 motion to disband the Appointments Committee but reshuffled membership after governance and transparency concerns were raised by public speakers.
