Council approves $11,756 federal grant for police, sheriff gear

NH LACONIA — Laconia City Council approves $11,756 federal justice grant. The council unanimously approved acceptance of an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance. The Laconia Police Department will use the funds to purchase a utility trailer for transporting the department's all-terrain vehicle, while Belknap County Sheriff's Department will use its portion to purchase active shooter gear.

The city and county executed a memorandum of understanding detailing allocation of the joint award. The council also unanimously approved a temporary traffic order for the Rev, White & Brew Fest Antique/Classic Car Show on August 14, authorized the 2026 unlicensed dog warrant, approved a building permit for Colonial Road with conditions, and appointed Beth Newton as an alternate Library Board member. Councilor Bogert announced his resignation, effective July 31.
