Council restructures Human Relations Committee, cuts membership to seven

City Council · Meeting of March 23, 2026

NH LACONIA — Laconia City Council approves restructuring of Human Relations Committee, reducing membership from 13 to 7. The ordinance, 2026-5-32, passed unanimously and redefines the committee's composition with six Council-appointed members and one Mayor-appointed member serving staggered terms aligned with the Mayor's tenure. Separately, the Council voted 5-1 on each of two summer events: Biketemberfest (September 11-13) and Wake the Lake (May 15-17), approving extended sound-equipment hours to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday for both events.

Councilor Soucy successfully amended both events to remove fee waivers previously granted in past years, with Councilor Haynes casting the sole opposition vote on both events.
