Laconia Public Safety Subcommittee refines downtown social district plan

City Council · Meeting of March 24, 2026

NH LACONIA — Laconia Public Safety Subcommittee advances social district proposal toward April hearing. The three-member panel unanimously approved prior meeting minutes and reached consensus to expand the downtown district to include Veterans Square (The Local Eatery, Burrito Me, The Cake) and Flipside. Operating hours were set at 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. instead of the original 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

A proposed $250 annual permit fee drew objection from Councilor Haynes, with Councilors Soucy and Conant supporting a fee waiver. City Manager Kirk Beattie will amend container criteria and coordinate liquor commission outreach to business owners. The full City Council votes April 13th to send the proposal to public hearing April 27th.
