Public Safety Subcommittee discusses downtown social district

City Council · Meeting of February 10, 2026

NH LACONIA — Public Safety Subcommittee reviews downtown social district proposal. The City Council's Public Safety Subcommittee discussed a downtown social district proposal based on New Hampshire House Bill 467, with Councilor Soucy (chair), Councilor Haynes, and Councilor Conant reviewing parameters. City Manager Kirk Beattie noted the town can control operating hours and days within state law limits, and Councilor Soucy suggested expanding the zone to Rotary Park for concerts and the Pumpkin Festival.

The committee discussed Thursday-Saturday or Friday-Sunday operating days, and business owner Jim Daubenspeck spoke in favor, citing five licensed downtown restaurants: The Flipside, Defiant, The Candy Bar, Taco Bay, and Wayfarer.
