Subcommittee Refines Human Relations Committee Ordinance

City Council · Meeting of March 4, 2026

NH LACONIA — Laconia City Council subcommittee revises Human Relations Committee ordinance structure. The Government Operations and Ordinances Subcommittee, chaired by Councilor Bogert with Councilors Hoffman and Conant present, discussed amendments to establish a seven-member committee with expanded duties covering city multicultural events and advisory functions. City Manager Kirk Beattie will revise the ordinance for legal review before returning to the full City Council.

During public comment, Ward 3 resident Patrick Wood suggested increasing the committee's annual budget to $3,000 from $2,000 to accommodate rising event costs. The subcommittee agreed that all donations and gifts must be formally accepted by the City Council prior to expenditure.
