Commission approves six demolition permits amid preservation concerns
Heritage Commission · Meeting of March 11, 2026
NH LACONIA — Heritage Commission approves six demolition permits in contentious session. Chair Marjory Wilkinson declined to vote on a 9 North Street application from Paugus Properties to protest the commission's lack of visibility into neighborhood-scale planning and development coordination. The commission unanimously approved permits for five other properties, including 148 Channel Lane, 21 Fore Street, 85 Elm Street, 17 Wentworth Cove Road, and 43 Washington Street.
Members expressed concern that the city lacks coordination between the Heritage Commission, Planning Board, and Zoning Board, leaving demolition decisions disconnected from any master vision for future neighborhood character.
