City Council approves $26,405 police equipment grant
City Council · Meeting of January 26, 2026
NH LACONIA — Laconia City Council approves $26,405 grant for police equipment and restructures city wage plan. The Council voted unanimously 6-0 to accept a $26,405 Homeland Security grant for police SWAT and SOU equipment, including binoculars, flashlights, eye protection, and radio microphone assemblies. Despite Ward 2 resident Lisa Morin's public hearing concerns about ICE involvement, Councilors Soucy and Hoffman noted the grant carries no ICE obligations and the equipment has no connection to immigration enforcement.
In separate action, the council unanimously approved wage and compensation amendments reducing personnel costs by $30,000, effective February 26.
