City Council · Meeting of January 27, 2026
NH LACONIA — Finance Committee elects Soucy, focuses on Colonial Theatre terms. Councilor Soucy was unanimously elected chairman of the Finance Committee. The committee spent the bulk of the meeting discussing renewal terms for the Colonial Theatre's operating contract, which expires June 30, 2026.
City Manager Kirk Beattie reported only one valid bid from incumbent operator Spectacle after two bidding rounds. The committee expressed preference for a 2-year initial term with built-in extensions rather than a 5-year agreement, and discussed contract terms including municipal access days, the city's annual $162,000 payment to Spectacle, and performance metrics to boost shows. The city and Library Board, which donated $200,000 toward the theater, sought clarity on theater access days and financial arrangements.
