Police Commission reviews officer staffing and budget status

NH LACONIA — Police Commission reviews staffing additions and overdose trends. Chaired by Douglas Whittum with Commissioners Frank Mello and Scott Davis present, the Commission heard that four officers are joining the department, including three recent Police Academy graduates and one transfer from Maine. Chief Matthew Canfield reported 21 overdoses year-to-date, significantly lower than previous years, while confirming the department is operating under budget as of May 1st.

The Commission also reviewed Highway Safety Enforcement Initiatives, entirely funded by the state, and noted preparations for Motorcycle Week, June 13-21.
