City Council blocks Cheney appointment over ethics concerns

NH LACONIA — Laconia City Council blocks Planning Board appointee on ethics grounds. On April 13, the Council rejected Bruce Cheney's nomination as Planning Board alternate, with Councilor Conant citing conflict of interest over Cheney's wife, Debra, being simultaneously appointed to the Zoning Board. The failed motion drew abstentions from five councilors; Bogert later changed his abstention to opposition.
More than a dozen residents called for removal of Councilors Hildreth and Soucy from the Appointments Subcommittee over their conduct in the selections process. In other business, the Council approved a $150,000 state grant for Laconia Municipal Airport airfield striping and three temporary traffic orders for upcoming community events.
