Finance Committee preps Colonial Theatre transfer, management deal

City Council · Meeting of April 2, 2026

NH LACONIA — Finance Committee readies Colonial Theatre deal and ownership transfer. Manager Kirk Beattie briefed the committee on a draft management agreement with Spectacle Management, adding a City Councilor to the advisory board at Councilor Soucy's request; the city receives 18 days annual use and the library gets 12 days. The committee advanced an ownership transfer from the Belknap Economic Development Committee to the city, targeting late April; the city estimates approximately $140,000 return after retail units are sold and owes roughly $5.7 million remaining on the building bond.

Public comment highlighted library access concerns, with John Moriarty, Chairman of the Library Board Trustees, noting the board has used only 2 of its 12 allocated days historically.
